Why would they bring us if they didn't think that?

He was just better armed than they've allowed any of us to be.

shuri gives a frustrated sigh and rolls over. ]

[begleiter]

[Shuri can be such a child. But Konatsu still feels responsible for him.] You're still in good health, right?

I'm always in good health. [ Barring the terrible homesickness and fear of going out there again. ]

[begleiter]

So you haven't have trouble finding food?

[antwort]

If you can call the slop here food, no.

[begleiter]

If you can eat it without it making you sick, it counts. [But at least he's been eating well enough. Even so...] Have you thought about what you're going to do next time they ask us to fight?

I... [ nope. ] We don't really have a choice in that, do we?!

[begleiter]

They didn't care enough to stop you from hiding last time. [Which is just a little harsh, admittedly.] ... They may not force you to fight in Liefeld.

[ rubs his face... ]

Maybe. I don't want to think about it!

[begleiter]

[Of course he doesn't.] What you want to do doesn't count for much here. If you don't decide quickly you could end up dead next time we're sent outside.

[ there's a clunk as shuri flops forward. ]

What am I supposed to do!?

[begleiter]

That's not something I can decide for you. You can stay here and accept that you'll have to fight at times. You could move to one of the other cities and look for work there. You could even try to convince them you're more valuable if you're kept away from the fighting, though I doubt they'll listen. [Konatsu manages to keep his tone calm, albeit it firm.]

I just want to go home. [ mumbled tearfully into his arms. ]

[begleiter]

That's not an option for us. It might not ever be. [Said as gently as Konatsu can manage.] We have to focus on surviving in the meantime.

[antwort]

[ sniffle. sniffle. ]

Can you come over?

[begleiter]

Yes. [He agrees much more readily than he would have before, and is out the door faster. He will vehemently deny any accusations of rushing, even though it's only a few minutes before he reaches and knocks on Shuri's door.]

[ He opens it up and steps back to let Konatsu in.

Even if he's trying to stay arrogant and above everyone else, he's struggling with the reality of it. He can't go home. Even if he did... his dad's gone. There's no one to protect him anymore. ]

[begleiter]

[The lack of arrogance as been odd for Konatsu, to say the very least. He doesn't dislike it, but he's not entirely sure how to deal with it, either. Not for the first time, he wishes that Teito hadn't vanished.]

[He steps inside and automatically gives the room a once over -- mostly checking to make sure Shuri has been taking care of his 'home'.]

Well. It's been cleaned by a boy who doesn't know very much about cleaning beyond making his own bed. Everything is poorly put away and cluttered - he doesn't know how to mop, or scrub, and the dishes are poorly scrubbed. ]

It's so dusty in here...

[begleiter]

I can see that. [He tries to not sound too judgemental and mostly ends up sounding exasperated.] Have you ever had to clean your room by yourself?

[antwort]

No. [ huff. ] Kokuyou always took care of that for me...

[begleiter]

[Konatsu wants to be more surprised by that.] It's time to learn, then. This place is miserable enough as it is.
